Schooldays spoof |
| This is a
send-up of an Angela Brazil-type school story... often
the target of the late Arthur Marshall in his broadcasts
some 30 years ago. As such it is a period piece and one
of the startling things about this talented young cast
was that, ably and subtly directed by Helen Sharman, they
all enunciated clearly in the received pronunciation of
the 1930's. Call me old-fashioned - this was a pleasure
to hear. Isabelle Smith, as Daisy Meridith was every inch the heroine - steady under fire and rising to every occasion against tremendous odds, then forgiving those who plotted against her. The true nature of Daisy's predicament as the first-ever scholarship girl in a snobby little public school held the audience in wrapt attention. |
