PLAY OF HOPE BY CAST OF PROMISE |
| There are no
pretensions of didacticism in this gripping drama ...
there was certainly promise in the members of its cast.
... forgive the traditional theatrical cliche, but here
was a performance where the actors really did act with
conviction. In the group's first ever venture into
serious drama, the young cast - most of them in their
early teens - were disturbingly realistic ... That the young actors were driven to portray such heights of fear and hate is largely a tribute to the three senior members of the cast who played the German soldiers. ... Ian Wallace spread terror and evil in his every word as Captain Weiner - so much so that some of the youngsters in the audience burst into tears! Directed with real pace and vigour and highlighted by superb lighting and effects, it should signal the way to many more serious productions by the group. |
