Horse & Cart stage

Medieval Theatre .. 1972-style! The Young Theatre's production of "Noah's Flood" on the back of a rag-man's cart fresh from the Portobello Road !

A miracle play from a horse and cart stage

A horse and cart going up Bridge Street might well be a surprise to any Pinner folk shopping, but a cart topped by an emblazoned banner and surrounded by young medieval mummers was a double surprise. ....
This venture ...was commissioned by Harrow Arts Council as a contribution to the Harrow Festival 1972. The youngsters, under the patient direction of Eric Bottomley, gave a sincere and touching performance including some natural, well-rehearsed comedy. ....
Sarah Bamford was splendid as Noah - a highly commendable and stirring performance. Rowena Gura as his rebellious wife was very humorous...and Jeremy Watkiss, Paul Hyams and Adam Gordon as their sons were virile and amusing. As their wives Deborah Heaton, Claire Toeman and Terina Brennan were good particularly on their return to dry land. .... Noah and his family were particularly good when simulating the effect of the high seas, the rocking of the ship and the sighting of the dove with its olive branch. ....
The old horse deserved his lump of sugar and all the mummers well deserved their applause. These young folk warrant support.
