The Story of Snow White : January 1980

What the Press said...

Bewitching pantomime

for young and old

A great deal of energy, enthusiasm and hard work made Beaconsfield Young Theatre's production of the Story of Snow White into a very well-deserved sucess.

....an intelligent and well-written script by the director, Ian Wallace, kept all the ingredients of the traditional story - so essential for the children in the audience - but included several original and clever ideas. ... we were treated to most charming incidental music also written for the occasion by Alan Kingshott and performed by Scarlet and Lace.

Make-up and costumes were good, the sets were very well thought out and constructed, while the lighting and effects were up to the highest professional standard and certainly the best I have seen for a long time.

The director had controlled the actors superbly ... and we had some excellent performances. Georgina Harvey made a nicely wicked Queen; Tessa Lee was impressive as her spoiled brat of a daughter and Lucinda Smalley excelled as her maid. As Snow White, Lorraine Patterson looked beautiful and gave us some very good scenes with the dwarfs and Mark Britton as Martyn the forester. But, helped by an excellent piece of script, the show stealers were undoubtedly Sarah Collins as the Witch and Mark Oldknow and Richard Harwood as two marvellous and very funny trolls.

The Young Theatre aim for and achieve such a high standard ... of the many pantomimes I have seen this season, both professional and amateur, it must be in the top three.
