The Wizard of Oz : December 1976

What the Press said ...

Wiz of Oz a good choice

For his first production, Michael Williams made a wise choice in "The Wizard of Oz" for Christmas entertainment. It was certainly an exciting challenge, engaging all the 80-odd members, and he skilfully obtained from each player a completely convincing characterisation. Overall a most satisfactory production resounding fully to the credit of all concerned.
... the tornado scene [was] quite terrific ...yet the best were the Jitterbugs' ballet and the Witch's kitchen, in menacingly sinister movement, as choreographed by Neil Macdonald and the director.
There were close on 50 players . . all of whom deserve a mention . . (Dorothy) Rosalind Holness . . never faltering . . first rate and memorable . . natural comedian Danny Long was so genuinely pathetic as the Scarecrow . . Tinman (Jeffrey Cole) . . well devised, excellent costume and make-up . . Lion (Alastair Allen) so endearing, and most effective . . Paul Bahattercharjee was excellent as the Wizard . . Jacquie Russell was splendid as the Witch, so horrible and really frightening - plunged to a fiery death.
A grand present for Christmas this, as the kids appreciated.
